Reading progress update: I've read 82 out of 374 pages.
"We started out in the African savannah, trying to run fast enough to catch up with things we could eat and stay away from things that could eat us. Our natural destiny is to squat in caves and shiver, then die young. We decided we didn't like that, and we figured out how to do better. Even if the numbskulls get their way and we wind up back in a cave, we will remember -- and we won't be in the cave for long. We do not remember everything, and there are losses.
